NYSSMA Solo Festival Information Sheet

PIANO NYSSMA INFORMATION                                                                                                   
(Registration for all other instruments and voice will be announced separately.)

What is the NYSSMA Solo Festival?                                                                                                                       
NYSSMA is the New York State School Music Association. At the NYSSMA Solo Festival, students receive an appointment to perform a solo piece in front of a judge.  Soloists will receive a grade, and a written evaluation.                      

Soloists are also required to play scales, and perform an unprepared short piece of written music, called ‘sight reading’.                                                                                                       

Music must be prepared outside of school and a private music teacher is recommended.

When and where is the PIANO NYSSMA Festival?

Payment for Piano NYSSMA:                                                                                                                                    
1.  Write the check out to: Great Neck Public Schools.                                                                                           
2.  Levels 1-4,  $26  / Levels 5-6 , $36.                                                                                                                                         
3.  Write in memo area of check:  child’s name and instrument                                                                                
4.  Write on envelope:  Piano NYSSMA, child’s full name, and classroom teacher’s name                                                            
5.  Register and submit your check by January 22, 2025

 

Music must be selected from the current NYSSMA Manual.                                                                                   
* There is a copy of the NYSSMA Manual at the Reference Desk of the Great Neck Public Library Main Building and some local music stores.

NYSSMA prohibits photocopied music.  Please be prepared to bring one original copy for the judge to read.                                       

You will receive your appointment time about one week before the Festival. We will send the appointment time home with your child as soon as we receive it.
